The Edinburgh Open (formerly the ESC Open or Artemis Tournament) deserves a page of its own. The ESC Open website has detailed content back to 2017, and the Honours Board and Trophies page catalogues all the winners and runners-up.
A detailed account of the Tournament’s lifespan will be recorded here in due course, but in the meantime please review the above options. This gallery features one (or sometimes two) photos from as many ESC Opens as we have photos available. That means starting in 1997 then sparsely until 2006 from when we have an almost uninterrupted set of images. If anyone has any of the missing years, please contact us.
The 2025 ESC Open
This year saw reduced prize money on offer (although Hen and Crask generously provided sponsorship). As a result, the tournament was co-sponsored by the PSA with ranking points on offer, but a somewhat reduced ranking field. Despite that, the squash remained at the customary high level, with 17 year old up and coming French player Lauren Baltayan emphatically defeating top seed Hannah Craig. In the men’s event, top seed and local hero Rory Stewart overcame Pakistan’s Muhd Ashab Irfan in five tight sets, despite having had a five setter in the semi final the previous day. The ‘Squash Site’ provided an article about the event. Click on any of the photos in the gallery below to enable a full screen slideshow.

The 2024 ESC Open
The 2024 ESC Open featured several of the world’s top squash players, including former number one (and 2020 winner) Karim Abdel Gawad. Gawad was however undone in the final by second seed Welshman Joel Makin. Reigning champion Gina Kennedy needed two five set matches to hold off Tesni Murphy in the semis, and Nada Abbas in the final.

The 2023 ESC Open
ESCO23 heralded a return to major senior squash events at the Club, with a high standard of entry in the main draws, and no fewer than six further graded competitions. Click here for ‘The SquashSite’ review and photographs, and we have assembled some photos and draw material from the event.

The ESC Open gallery through the years
The gallery below features images from the Open (variously called the ESC Open and the Artemis) from 1997 through 2020. Just a few years are missing – anyone have any images?
